A week in and around Mexico City

We’ve been in Mexico for a full week already!

We visited the piramides at Teotihuacan - ruins of an ancient Mesoamerican city, built around 200BC, and saw the pyramid of the sun and the pyramid of the moon.

We expected to take some time at the piramides to reflect and feel a sense of the spirituality and history of the ruins, but like other ancient places we have visited, it was very busy and touristy.

After visiting the piramides, Ash said he wanted to visit a toy museum in the city, which housed one man’s collection of toys over several decades. As he never asks to do anything, I said yes! After a metro ride to a slightly sketchy part of the city and hastily trying to locate the museum, we went in. Ash enjoyed himself, and I felt glad not to be there on my own - it was a bit creepy!

The next day we caught a bus to a nearby town in the mountains, Tepotzlan. The town was exactly how we imagined Mexico would be - cobbled streets, local markets, old cars, cowboys…

We spent a few days here looking round the weekend markets, eating the local food, and chilling out in hammocks on our hostel’s rooftop. We also did a hike in the mountains to see an ancient pyramid, though when we got to the top it was closed.
