Baja California Sur… where the desert meets the sea
After a week exploring in and around Mexico City we decided to take some time to chill at the beach.

We booked a flight to La Paz, and eventually arrived after a long journey involving going to the wrong airport (who knew there are two airports in Mexico City?!) and our flight being delayed by 3 hours. On the upside, Ash managed to find a baby Moochie at the airport so he was happy!! (Moochie just about fits in his bag)
La Paz itself is a lovely city on the waterfront, and we enjoyed wandering around, trying new food and walking along the seafront Malecón.
Our hostel was really cool, they had a lovely garden where we had beers and tacos in the evening. We met lots of people and learnt some Mexican slang!
We decided to take day trip to the nearby fishing village of Todos Santos on the bus one day. We enjoying exploring the village and the markets, but found it very touristy and expensive. We walked for an hour in 35 degree heat to get to the beach, it was a nice walk through the country but sadly the currents were too strong for us to go in the sea.
We also did two boat trips in La Paz, one to a beautiful island - Isla Espíritu Santo, where we swam with sea lions and spent time enjoying the beautiful white beaches and clear blue water.
The other trip was a sea safari with the owner of the hostel, Miguel, and his friend Heide, who is doing her doctorate studying dolphins. We went out on the boat to look for marine life and she recorded their sounds. We managed to find a giant mantaray (3m wide!) which we swam with for a while, and we also snorkelled with dolphins and sea lions. We learnt a lot about the marine life from Heide and we had a great day.
Next stop: ferry ride to mainland Mexico to take a train ride in the Copper Canyon
